Buckeye Skyline Trails Park
Coffman Studio managed the public involvement process, assisted in trail planning and oversaw the production of the final Master Plan that included multi-phase trail corridor maps, trail classification hierarchy descriptions, design guidelines for trails, trailheads, and signage; funding opportunities and general recommendations. This nearly undisturbed land was transferred to the City of Buckeye from the BLM for management. With minimal prior trails-of-use on the site, the consultant team designed a trail system almost from scratch. The Master Plan, completed as a plan/design/build contract, resulted in 6-miles of non-motorized multi-use trails opened to the public within 5 months of starting the planning process. Within a one-year period, an additional ten miles of trails opened, providing a wide range of trail experiences to the rapidly growing West Valley of the Phoenix Metro area. The planning process incorporated numerous public outreach methods to gain valuable insight from residents, users and regional stakeholders on desired trail experiences and management best practices. The trail team developed a trail system that ensures a mix of skill levels, loop lengths, inspiring views, and ultimately, build able and maintainable trails with minimal environmental impact. The construction technique used a full-cut trail method to minimize erosion and ensure trail stability and longevity.
